The Freeman Junction Parka

Posted: Feb 15 2017

What a way to start 2017! The long-awaited new outerwear piece from Freeman is the Junction Parka, and we're very excited to offer it both online and in our Seattle store. I remember, before the store was even open, getting a look at an early prototype of this jacket and thinking it was awesome. So to see it fully realized not merely as a two-tone version of the classic Freeman raincoat, but as a completely new design, is pretty darn exciting. Here's a look at the brand-new Junction Parka that's destined to become a Freeman staple and enduring classic.

The idea for the Junction Parka came from wanting to make a multi-colored version of the Freeman raincoat, bringing together complementary colors to create a bold new look for the waterproof jacket we all know and love (hence the name – a "junction" between two colors). However, the idea evolved into creating a completely new design for the Junction Parka. While it features many of the same hallmark features as the Freeman raincoat – fully waterproof and breathable, raglan-sleeve construction, adjustable hood with reinforced brim, 100% cotton flannel lining, slim-fit silhouette – it's packed with new details and design elements. It's slightly longer in the body for an elongated profile, giving it more of a parka feel than the Freeman raincoat. The Junction Parka also features four exterior pockets: there are two expandable cargo pockets at the front hip with a fully integrated cargo flap with snap closure. Additionally, it features two elevated, flannel-lined handwarmer pockets with zip closure that were inspired by vintage outerwear.

And, of course, there are three awesome color combinations that really emphasize the "junction" in this sweet jacket's name. We're happy to offer the Junction Parka in a couple of two-tone color options: Dijon/Navy with chrome snaps and Black/Moss with matte black snaps. These two-color versions are split at the yoke, so the top color ends at mid-chest. And, for you monochromaniacs (that's a word, right?), we've got it in Black with matte black snaps as well. Like the Freeman raincoat, all three of the Junction Parkas are made from 100% nylon fabric with a DWR (Durable Water Repellant) treatment that is fully waterproof and breathable. The fabric has a waterproof rating of 10,000 mm, a breathability rating of 10,000G, and a DWR rating of 80P after 20 wash. The result is a fully technical waterproof coat with awesome vintage-inspired styling that'll keep you looking sharp and staying dry for many years to come.
