Fall Picks: The Crissman Overshirt from Dehen 1920
Posted: Nov 10 2016
As you may have noticed, we often like to use this blog to showcase great new additions to our store that we're particularly excited about. However, we're also just as stoked about the pieces that we've stocked every year at Freeman – those classics that we feel are a perfect fit for our store and want to share with all of you season after season because they're just that excellent. Case in point: the Crissman Overshirt from Dehen 1920.
We've carried the Crissman Overshirt in a variety of colors since the very first fall and winter season that our store was open, and now, like the changing of the leaves, it's back again in one tried-and-true (though slightly different) color, and one brand-new one. Though we've stocked the Crissman Overshirt in Charcoal before, this year's wool is a slightly darker shade of grey. We're loving it. We also have it in the never-before-available Navy, and it's as handsome as we expected when we picked it out all those months ago. "But what's an overshirt? What do I do with it?" you might be asking. Keep reading – we're happy to break it down.
The Crissman Overshirt is essentially a hybrid shirt-jacket – it's cut like a shirt, with dual button-closure patch pockets at the chest, a curved hem, point collar, and button-front construction. Yet it's made from heavyweight 18 oz. Pendleton Eco-wise wool for warmth and protection from the elements, and features cotton lining on key portions of the inside to keep the scratchiness at bay. It also sports two front welt pockets and double-panel reinforced elbows, which underscores its outerwear bonafides.
This has been a favorite fall and winter layering piece at Freeman for several years – I'll wear mine over another button-front shirt like it's a jacket, or over a t-shirt and button it all the way up like a shirt. It really does work in a variety of ways, and we love its versatility. We'd expect nothing less from Dehen 1920, who have made beautiful wool outerwear in Portland, Oregon since (you guessed it) 1920. The Crissman Overshirt is one of our favorite pieces in the shop, and once you try one on, you'll see why.
