New at Freeman: Crescent Down Works

Posted: Oct 06 2015

As far as technical innovations go, we've gotta hand it to the present day. With iPhones in our pockets and electric cars silently whirring past us on the street, we're living in a pretty impressive age of cool products and design ingenuity. However, some undeniably great products really came into their own in decades past, and we're lucky that a few of them continue to ply their crafts in the same outstanding manner to this day.

One of those companies is Seattle's own Crescent Down Works. They've been making the world's finest down-fill garments for more than 40 years. Sewn in Pioneer Square, just west of the stadiums, their classically-styled down vests and jackets haven't really changed much since the mid-'70s – they're still hand-made and of the utmost quality, still classically styled, and still incredible.

Crescent Down Works uses ultra-high quality, white goose down that tests at over 700 cubic inches per ounce. In fact, Anne Crippen Michelson, the owner of Crescent Down Works, created the industry standard method for testing down fill more than 40 years ago, and sold the testing device throughout the outdoor apparel industry. We believe thatCrescent Down Works embodies the idea of a company that hit on something amazing decades ago and has stuck to its guns ever since, never faltering in its dedication to making the absolute finest goods on the market. We've carried them here at Freeman since we opened last year as part of our Loveless Collection, and we're very excited to present this year's Crescent Down Works products: the Italian Vest in two brand-new, exclusive colorways, and the Freeman-exclusive Diagonal Quilt Down Jacket.

The Crescent Down Works Italian Vest takes its cues from '70s mountaineering gear, which makes sense, since that's when Crescent first started. We first carried the Italian Vest last fall and they were an instant hit. This year's vests are gonna be just as killer. Featuring a 60/40 cotton-nylon outer shell and a 100% nylon streak-free inner, these vests are filled with 5.5 ounces of premium 700-fill goose down. With down-filled exterior front pockets, an interior security pocket, zippered and leather-backed snap closure, and an elasticized waist, this is the nicest down vest out there. This fall, we have them in both Navy and Cardinal, two very handsome colorways that are exclusive to our store. We think you'll love them.

Of course, we couldn't just repeat what we did last year (even what we did last year was totally awesome)! This fall, we've expanded our Crescent Down Works offerings to include a Freeman-exclusive jacket that has to be seen to be believed: the Diagonal Quilt Down Jacket. This thing just straight-up rules. Streamlined, slim-fitting and not at all Puffy, the Diagonal Quilt Down Jacket features a navy blue 60/40 cotton-nylon outer shell with a matching navy 100% nylon streakfree inner liner, ribbed collar and cuffs, curved shirttail hem with side gusset slits, and down-filled front hand-warmer pockets. Additionally, we specially customized these jackets by adding a front placket with leather-backed snap closure in addition to the standard front zipper. We think the snap placket takes this jacket into a new stratosphere of amazing. So, if you've ever wanted the warmth of a down jacket without the bulk or overly technical appearance of many similar jackets out there, the Diagonal Quilt Down Jacket will be your new best friend.
